Retained counsel for companies and individuals
Legal questions come up all year, for a company and for a person alike, not only when there is a dispute. Retained counsel already know your affairs, so a question does not start with the whole story being told again.
What this covers
- Advice on the legal questions that arise through the year, by phone, email or in meetings
- Reviewing contracts and documents before signature
- Written legal opinions where one is needed to decide
- For a company: registered changes, shareholders' and directors' meetings, company secretarial work, and work permits and visas for foreign staff
- For an individual: property and land, personal contracts, family and inheritance, and debts
- Coordinating when a matter has to go to a court or a government authority
How it proceeds
- 01
Get to know your affairs
For a company, its structure, main contracts and licences; for an individual, the assets and the questions on your mind at the time.
- 02
Agree the scope and the fee
We set out in writing which work the annual fee covers and which is quoted separately.
- 03
Ongoing advice
Questions answered and documents reviewed as you send them through the year, by people who already know your affairs.
- 04
Annual review
A summary of the year's work, what has to be renewed, and what to prepare for the year ahead.
What we will need from you
- For a company: the company certificate, the shareholder list and the articles of association
- For an individual: an ID card or passport, and the papers of the matters to be looked after
- The contracts and key documents in use, and any licences held
